There is a rumour abound that 99x is an exceptionally fast machine even the fastest 182 out there!
I was hopeing to get a few pointers on picking up speed

how important is paint and finnish i.e. wax etc. ?
is weight reduction important i.e. light weight starter/alternater ?
flush rivets and so on ?

Any hints would be greatly apreciated
my 61 182 D was achieveing a measly 129 knots
installed the knots2u speed cowel fairing
nose wheel speed fairing
flap gap seals
strut fairings
and now achieveing 139 knots how-ever this is still 4 knots
slower than a local Debonair so i definately intend to pick up at least another 5 knots, i have a Snider speed kit to install that will fair the gear legs and brakes , time will tell how much this yields.
i will post the results here.
Many thanx for any ideas

Welcome aboard Kevin, there are a few posts reguarding speed on the old web site that you can find in the links section. There are some in the 970's and some way back. Less weight is faster because of the hp to weight ratio. But aerodynamic clean-up will give you more. One simple thing is to remove that shin breaking step and put FAA approved skate board tape on the spring gear.
Another easy one is sealing all of the holes in the engine baffling.
hope this helps.
