Occurred today in Texas. The pilot was unharmed. Aero-news.net has a story about it and the COPA forum (www.cirruspilots.org) already has an extensive discussion. All told, a very fortunate ending for what could have been a tragedy.

It's good to see the system work as intended. It can't help but raise the morale in the Cirrus group.
After having read some of the background surrounding this situation it once again reinforces my thoughts that the most dangerous time to fly your airplane is just after it gets out of the shop for maintenance. You just can't assume that the mechanic did everything as required as too many of them don't really pay attention like they should. Of course some just don't care and others are simply incompetent. The best preflight you should ever do ought to come when leaving the shop that just worked on your bird.
