Cheap EFIS Alternative

Assuming that you kept the regular Six Pack, would you be allowed to install an Dynon non-certified PFD? Might be a cheap way to get a Glass Cockpit with full back-up.

The FAA can be picky (not always predictably so) about certification requirements depending how "permanent" the installation is. For example, a handheld GPS on the yoke, even with hard-wired ship's power, usually is not a problem because it is removable and not considered a permanent installation. A non-certified EFIS might be an issue if it can't be readily removed by the pilot at the end of each flight. YMMV Probably best to check with your local neighborhood FSDO as well as avionics installers to see what their experience has been.
